With a goal of $120,000, author and filmmaker Luis Aponte has launched a crowd funding project on Indiegogo to build a Millennium Falcon Spaceship Car and have it run on biodiesel. The goal is to inspire children to think about the future of alternative cars and fuels by touring the Star Wars Millennium Falcon spaceship car and his children’s book across the country. The thirty-day crowd funding campaign began on April 14th and will continue until May 14th.
During an Earth Day presentation about creative alternative fuels at Okeeheelee Nature Center in West Palm Beach, FL, Aponte said of the project, “The United States currently consumes one out of every five barrels of oil produced in the world. In order to establish and protect our energy independence, what better way to inspire kids to think about the future of cars and alternative fuels than by building a Millennium Falcon Spaceship Car that will run on biodiesel?” Crowd funding support will allow Aponte to have the Star Wars-influenced car built in nine months and ready to travel when his children’s book is published next year.
The children’s book and the custom car will bring attention to the need for renewable alternative fuels that do not compete with food-based crops or depend on fossil fuels. Allowing fans to pick the book tour locations as well as choose what chapters will be included in the children’s book, the author is poised to become a favorite with kids to say the least. Among the Indiegogo rewards, the “Golden V.I.P.” perk for $10,000 offers up to twenty sponsors the opportunity to have the Spaceship Car driven to any residence or business within the 48 continental United States for parties, weddings, corporate, or social events, where Aponte will be their personal lunch or dinner guest. Aponte emphasizes that he’s not affiliated with the Walt Disney Corporation, the Star Wars franchise or film director George Lucas, but is inspired by them all. Looking to inspire his own fans, Indiegogo contributors may have the opportunity to be featured in a documentary movie highlighting the Spaceship Car and children’s book tour. Aponte has had success with his short documentary film based on his first nonfiction eBook, “Death of a Gas Guzzler” which received the honor of “Official Selection” from the “15 Minutes of Fame International Film Festival” in Florida.
Luis Aponte is a self-published author, filmmaker, and board game inventor from Greenacres, Florida, USA. He is dedicated to publishing works and speaking publicly in venues regarding alternative fuels and ways to eliminate dependence on petroleum and other fossil fuels.
