Auberge Resorts operator and owner of boutique luxury hotels, resorts, residences and private clubs across North America, announced today that Alison Cumberland will join the company as Chief Development Officer. Cumberland will partner with Craig Reid, Chief Executive Officer, and the management team to lead the Auberge Resorts growth strategy.
“Given Alison’s extensive background and proven success in all facets of hotel development, from deal negotiation to execution, Auberge Resorts is well poised to achieve our expansion objectives as we continue on our growth trajectory,” said Craig Reid.
In this role Cumberland will identify, negotiate, and secure all development projects including new construction, conversions and expansions. In collaboration with the senior leadership team, Cumberland will conduct analyses of all projects to ensure profitability and return on investment.

Cumberland joins Auberge Resorts with more than 15 years of hospitality acquisition and development experience. She most recently served as Senior Vice President, North American Full-Service Hotel Development, Western Region at Marriott International. While there, she was the team leader of the region, leading negotiations and development that included both new-build hotels and conversions of existing properties, managed and franchised, under the Ritz-Carlton,
JW Marriott, Marriott, Renaissance and Autograph brands. Cumberland negotiated Marriott’s hotel portfolio presence at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles and was a contributing member of Marriott’s development team during negotiations with The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which resulted in the execution of a franchise agreement for the Autograph Collection. In addition, Cumberland is responsible for the growth of the Autograph Collection in the Western United States, including the iconic Brown Palace in Denver as well as the recently announced Marriott branded hotel in Beverly Hills.
Prior to that, she worked with Marriott Hotels of Canada in Toronto as Vice President, Canadian Hotel Development. Cumberland began her hospitality career with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Management, Inc. in Toronto as an Acquisitions Analyst.
Cumberland holds a Masters of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance from the University of Calgary, Canada. She served as Vice Chair on the Urban Land Institute’s Resort Development Council, and regularly presents at various hospitality and real estate conferences and seminars.
