"I look forward to hearing the verdict of the case as it will be interesting to see if the university is found guilty of these alleged claims,” stated Heath D. Harte.

According to a recent article published by ABA Journal*, a pending lawsuit claims Princeton University allegedly discriminated against a suicidal student and exposed medical confidences. Civil Litigation and Personal Injury Attorney Heath D. Harte releases a statement regarding the pending lawsuit.
“I am particularly interested in viewing the verdict of this specific case. As the article states, schools in similar situations may fear liability for not gathering proper information and failing to remove a troubled student from campus prior to a suicide. However, in this case the student is claiming personal injury by the school stating Princeton allegedly violated the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as invasion of privacy, infliction of emotional distress, breach of contract and other causes to action. Personal injury is a legal term for an injury to the body, mind or emotions, therefore this student may have a strong case against the university,” stated Heath D. Harte.
According to the lawsuit (New Jersey, 3:14-cv-1993-JAP-TJB)**, the student identified as W.P. ingested roughly 20 anti-depressant tablets and then went to Princeton’s health center for help*. Allegedly within 3 days, the university had barred him from his dorm, banned him from going to class or stepping foot on campus, according to the lawsuit.
“Personal injury is a type of tort lawsuit alleging that the plaintiff’s injuries have been caused by the negligence of another, in W.P’s case Princeton University. Injuries categorized under a personal injury lawsuit include bodily injury, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress. I look forward to hearing the verdict of the case as it will be interesting to see if the university is found guilty of these alleged claims,” continued Harte.
Now a sophomore, W.P. is back in school after fulfilling a list of requirements and reapplying for admission, according to the ABA Journal.
