"As Assessor, I will implement my plan that is now backed by nearly every Los Angeles daily newspaper to protect taxpayers, protect Prop 13, and save taxpayers millions each year," said John Morris.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 23, 2014
Citing his plan to make the Los Angeles County Assessor's office responsive and transparent to taxpayers, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune has become the sixth major Los Angeles daily newspaper to endorse John Morris for Los Angeles County Assessor.
In their endorsement, the Tribune stated, "... And yet he says he understands the issues that property owners with legitimate valuation disputes have with the office. It now takes over a year for a hearing before the appeals board to determine the contested evaluation of a property... He says he would empower midlevel staffers to make their own professional judgments so as not to further crowd the appeals board."
"With just 12 days left before the June 3 primary election, having the San Gabriel Valley Tribune support our campaign to protect taxpayers and make this agency more transparent in its operations by empowering professionals to do their job is a great sign of momentum," explained John Morris. "The chief financial asset for most county taxpayers is their home and making them wait over a year to appeal an assessment decision shows we need an Assessor who will protect and listen to taxpayers."
Serving the many communities of the San Gabriel Valley, the Tribune's endorsement comes just as hundreds of thousands of Los Angeles County voters are casting vote-by-mail ballots or filling out their sample ballots in preparation for the June 3rd statewide primary election. The Tribune joins an unanimous list of major Los Angeles daily newspapers backing John Morris for Los Angeles County Assessor including the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Daily News, Pasadena Star-News, the Torrance Daily Breeze, and the Long Beach Press-Telegram, along with groups like the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
"Voters passed Proposition 13 in part because politics and property assessments should not mix," said John Morris. "As Assessor, I will implement my plan that is now backed by nearly every Los Angeles daily newspaper to protect taxpayers, protect Prop 13, and save taxpayers millions each year."
