Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) May 23, 2014
South Florida, specifically Miami and Broward counties, gear up for the annual festivities of Memorial Day Weekend. This season, two Florida cities appear on the Travelers Today’s list of top ten Memorial Day weekend getaways, including South Florida as number two, and Orlando as number five. For some, the holiday signifies a much needed day off of school or work, while others see it as an opportunity to relive the freedoms of their recent spring break holiday, which may include partying, BBQ’ing, and sun-soaking. South Florida security company, Bryant Security Corporation reminds the community what we are celebrating for this Memorial Day weekend, and shares how to keep safe while joining in the festivities.
Memorial Day is a day which commemorates fallen soldiers of war, and pays respect to family members who have lost loved ones in combat. Over time, the holiday has seemed to evolved into a party-packed, three-day weekend involving traditional American past times. “Memorial Day is a day to commemorate our soldiers who have given their lives to help make this nation a better place. Most see Memorial Day as a weekend to party, BBQ, or even an opportunity to increase sales,” says Shay Ben-David, President of Bryant Security. “Let’s please not forget all the families that have lost a loved one, and acknowledge their sacrifices.” Mr. Ben-David agrees this weekend should be celebrated, and encourages people to remember why we are celebrating this weekend.
According to CBS Miami, this Memorial Day weekend is projected to significantly increase profits in businesses, restaurants and hotels, with an estimated influx of up to a quarter of a million visitors over the weekend. Out-of-towners can expect numerous traffic loops, cops scanning license plates along the bridges, and regular DUI stops. While this holiday is about remembering our fallen soldiers, festivities and South-Beach-fun are expected, including the well attended Urban Beach Weekend. Bryant Security Corporation has put together safety guidelines, to keep in mind this Memorial Day Weekend.
-Night Club Safety: Besides dancing and meeting new people, nightclubs are known for drinking. If you are of age, this is fine; but never drink so much that you lose your natural senses.
-Clubs are notorious for fights. If a fight breaks out, move away from the area as quickly and safely as possible.
-Always know where the exits are at all times in case evacuation is necessary.
-Absolutely never leave your drink unattended — NEVER, not even for a few seconds.
-Keep your distance from people that you do not know. Alcohol affects different people in different ways from a state of relaxation to a violent state.
-Never drink and drive. Always have a designated driver. (Nearly 34,000 people loss their lives in alcohol-related accidents last year. Nearly 200 of those were children under the age of 14.)
-Follow your instincts. If you don’t feel safe, you probably aren’t safe.
-While on the beach, listen to your body for symptoms of heat exhaustion.
-Lastly, please remember that Memorial Day is to commemorate those soldiers who lost their lives fighting for our freedom.
