Cranberries are great on their own but also pair well with other fruits, like apples. The Big Apple Award is a great example of that. - Scott J. Soares, Executive Director, CMC
Wareham, MA (PRWEB) June 03, 2014
Selected from thousands of entrants, the Cranberry Marketing Committee USA and Pollock Communications, Inc. were honored by the Public Relations Society of America’s New York Chapter (PRSA-NY) with the Big Apple Award in Public Affairs for the CMC National School Lunch Program. A Big Apple Award is one of the highest honors in public relations and is considered gold standard of excellence for New York PR professionals. The PRSA-NY is the world's largest professional organization for public relations practitioners.
The Cranberry Marketing Committee USA worked with Pollock Communications to create an education campaign targeting school foodservice influencers about the versatility of cranberries. The program gained support among these professionals, who then directly requested that dried cranberries be added to the USDA Foods Available List. The USDA received many requests for dried cranberries from school foodservice professionals which led to dried cranberries being added to the USDA Foods Available List for Schools and Institutions in a record-breaking six months from the launch of the program.
“The cranberry industry and students across the country are fortunate to have such committed and caring school foodservice professionals working on our behalf. Their work to expand the USDA Foods Available List as well as school meal offerings is a true reflection of their dedication and has been tremendously rewarding for school lunch, the CMC and cranberry growers across the United States,” said Scott J. Soares, Executive Director of the Cranberry Marketing Committee USA.
“We were honored to work with the Cranberry Marketing Committee on the CMC National School Lunch Program and have this impactful program recognized by the Big Apple Awards,” said Louise Pollock, President of Pollock Communications, Inc.
As part of the education campaign, the CMC developed “A Reason for Every Season” Toolkit for school foodservice professionals. The toolkit includes easy-reference nutritional information and five NSLP-compliant cranberry-themed recipes for school lunch menus. In July 2014, the CMC will be unveiling an additional five recipes to its expanding and popular Toolkit at the School Nutrition Association Annual National Conference to be held in Boston, MA.
Cranberries are a nutrient-rich fruit that can count toward the daily fruit requirements in many forms such as fresh, frozen, dried, sauce, or juice. Added Soares, "Cranberries are great on their own but also pair well with other fruits, like apples. The Big Apple Award is a great example of that."
