NEW ALBANY, IN (PRWEB) June 17, 2014
June marks the fourth anniversary of New Albany dentist Dr. Ronald Receveur’s training in the All on Four dental implants procedure.
The revolutionary New Albany All on Four procedure allows patients who have no teeth in either the upper or lower jaw, or both, to receive a full set of teeth using only four dental implants without bone grafting – even if they have significant jaw bone density loss.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into the jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are great options for patients who have lost teeth.
Before the All on Four was developed, many patients with deteriorated jaw bones had to have extensive bone grafting surgery, then wait six months or a year to have implants placed, Dr. Receveur said. So getting rid of a removable denture and replacing it with permanent false teeth would often take up to 24 months.
Though All on Four dental implants cost more than traditional implants, Dr. Receveur the entire process takes 90 days with no extensive bone grafting – all in one surgery in a single day.
“Patients come to see me when other Louisville dentists say they don’t have enough bone for implants,” said Dr. Receveur, who has been a Southern Indiana and Louisville dentist since 1981.
Dr. Receveur trained in Lisbon, Portugal, from Dr. Paulo Malo, the procedure’s inventor, in June 2010.
He said he would see All on Four surgeries all day long, walking from treatment room to treatment room. Dr. Receveur said he saw more cases in a day there than he would see in months elsewhere.
Patients flew from all over the world to Portugal to see Dr. Malo, Dr. Receveur said. Young Portuguese dental school graduates worked for free for Dr. Malo, just to be able to put the experience on their résumé, he said. Only a small percentage of those who applied to study under Dr. Malo were accepted, Dr. Receveur said.
“Dr. Malo had 60 staff dentists and more than 600 employees,” Dr. Receveur said.
Extensive dental implant training is not new for Dr. Receveur. Born with a partial cleft palate that left him with a missing front tooth, as a child he “wore an awful removable partial.” As a teenager, Dr. Receveur received a permanent bridge, but his dentist destroyed one of his healthy, natural teeth in the process.
These experiences helped form his drive to find better dental solutions for patients. First he studied under Dr. Gus Livaditis, creator of the Maryland Bridge technique, which does not destroy adjoining teeth, and one of the pioneers of acid etching and bonding.
Then he studied dental implants through Nobel BioCare, the largest dental implant manufacturer in the country, and Dr. Jack Hahn, a Cincinnati expert in implant systems and prosthetics. Next he received an externship with the world-renowned Midwest Implant Institute.
After that he trained with the world’s foremost implant dentist, Dr. Carl Misch, and Dr. James Butler, an expert on mini implants.
Dr. Receveur has attended more than 5,000 hours of postgraduate training to study with the best dentists in the world. He has been awarded numerous advanced certifications in Aesthetic, Sedation, Implant, Comprehensive and Restorative dentistry so he may provide the most current dental techniques to his Louisville and New Albany dental patients.
Dr. Receveur graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University Southeast before he earned his doctorate in Dental Surgery from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.
