Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) June 18, 2014
Unlimi-Tech Software, Inc., a pioneer in managed file transfers and the creator of FileCatalyst, a world leading accelerated file transfer solution, is pleased to announce that TV 2 Norway has selected FileCatalyst Direct as their file transfer solution for moving World Cup 2014 footage from Brazil to Norway.
Headquartered in Bergen, Norway, TV 2 began broadcasting in September 1992. Owned by TV 2 Group, TV 2 Norway is the largest commercial television station in Norway and began broadcasting in high definition in 2009. Current coverage includes the World Cup 2014, occurring throughout Brazil from June 12 until July 13.
The FileCatalyst platform has a strong reputation for efficient, accelerated file transfers when deployed in sports production workflows. This ability, as well as the FileCatalyst solution’s extensive feature set, played a major role in it’s selection by TV 2 as the file transfer solution for its World Cup 2014 coverage. By implementing FileCatalyst Direct, TV 2 is able to securely and reliably transfer event footage faster than traditional methods, such as FTP.
TV 2 has deployed the FileCatalyst HotFolder software in Brazil, which connects to a FileCatalyst Server located at TV 2’s headquarters in Bergen, Norway. Match footage is uploaded using the HotFolder, which is able to monitor for new content and concurrently transfer multiple growing or static files from a single task and send them at the maximum possible speed back to Norway. From there, various production and post production teams are able to edit and prepare footage for broadcast. This streamlined process doesn’t require any delay for encoding to complete before the transfer. By leveraging FileCatalyst’s unique patent pending UDP-based algorithm, TV 2 was able to maximize its 1 Gbps connection and overcome network impairments such as high latency and packet loss. For broadcasters looking to edit and air highlights for large sporting events such as the World Cup, especially in cases where the event venue is geographically distant, these abilities are essential.
“FileCatalyst has been a great resource for us. Heading into World Cup. the world’s most watched sporting event, it made sense to rely on software with a proven track record in sports production workflows,” said Tom Skarstein, Head of Technology Operations, at TV 2 Norway. “After testing FileCatalyst during the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia with success, selecting FileCatalyst for World Cup 2014 was an easy decision.”
“We’re extremely proud to be working with TV 2 Norway for the World Cup,” said Unlimi-Tech’s co-founder and CEO, Chris Bailey. “Our experience with some of the world’s largest sporting events and our unparalleled feature set gave us the ability to put forward a top level solution.”
