Energy Efficient Technology

“We’re excited aboutwhat this new line of energy efficient technology will mean for our customers and the impact it will have on thebroadcast industry as a whole.”- David Leighton, president and CEO at LEIGHTRONIX.

LEIGHTRONIX has announced the release of their new energy efficient technology mark, which is given to products with low energy consumption. The first three products to earn LEIGHTRONIX’s new distinction are the UltraNEXUS-HD™, IncodeX Blade™, and UltraNEXUS-HD Blade™.

These products are the first in a line of high-performance headend video devices in which energy efficiency was built in from product inception, through design, and into manufacturing, and require just a fraction of the energy of legacy systems and most present day offerings.

As an example, the new UltraNEXUS-HD Blade system includes 12 high-definition video servers, with independent graphics per channel, in one compact four rack unit chassis, and draws an astonishing 220 watts of AC power total, even when configured with redundant power supplies. Most contemporary server systems with similar specifications draw upwards of 50 to 75 watts of AC power per channel, and therefore would draw 600 to 900 watts in order to provide the 12 channels of the UltraNEXUS-HD Blade. With the UltraNEXUS-HD Blade, however, a station or other type of channel provider can operate on less than 25 percent of the AC power of a contemporary server, with less dissipated heat, and in a significantly smaller amount of physical space.

This efficient use of energy translates directly into a recurring savings in energy costs for the users of products with the energy efficient technology mark from LEIGHTRONIX. The table below illustrates these savings using real world numbers.

“The hidden dollars associated with the energy efficiency of any product rarely show up on a price list, but they are both valuable and recurring,” said David Leighton, president and CEO at LEIGHTRONIX. “We’re excited about what this new line of energy efficient technology will mean for our customers and the impact it will have on the broadcast industry as a whole.”
