This record, to me, is probably one of the most interesting subject-wise. It’s a bit retrospective and honors musicians and classics of the past.

Lourdes Duque Baron’s music traverses a diverse swath of jazz and adult contemporary terrain, creating cutting edge sounds from classic ballads. Her recent release, “Cry Me A River” (originally performed by Diana Krall), is no exception. Baron’s arrangement of “Cry Me A River” balances the delicate, emotional lyricism and her smoky, sensual and powerful vocals. Listen to “Cry Me A River” here: Lourdes Duque Baron MTV

Influenced by the classic greats, Baron leans toward a gritty, emotional version of the Krall song – a good fit for any smoke-filled jazz club. Her sound is intriguing, blurring the lines of mainstream jazz, rock and avant garde, that masks the virtuosity within the emotions of the lyrics.

“Cry Me A River” is produced by multi-platinum and Billboard Award winning producer, Andrew Lane. Lane describes Baron’s vocals as “an amalgam of sound that is genuinely fresh to the ears.”

“Cry Me A River” will be included on Baron’s upcoming CD, “Feeling Good At Any Age.” The CD includes several classic songs from musicians who have inspired and influenced Baron including, John Lennon, Amy Winehouse, Krall, and Bob Marley. Baron is in a season of both nostalgia and reality about what it means to be starting a music career at an older age, and her life reflections have become the life and breath of her debut album. “I wanted to make the songs of this album like they’re chapters in a book, to try to really capture what I’m thinking about in that season of life,” she explains. “This record, to me, is probably one of the most interesting subject-wise. It’s a bit retrospective and honors musicians and classics of the past.”
