Oxnard All on 4 Dental Implants Experts Warn Implants Aren’t for Everyone
Oxnard, CA (PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- Oxnard All on 4 dental implants experts Dr. Saj Jivraj and Dr. Mamaly Reshad of the Anacapa Dental Art Institute are prosthodontists, meaning they are experts in rebuilding natural teeth and restoring missing and damaged teeth with prosthetic replacements.
However, despite offering a Ventura contemporary dental implant center, the two elite dentists want denture users and others with missing teeth to know that dental implants are not right for every patient.
“About 40 million Americans wear dentures, and this includes 57 percent of those aged 65 to 74 years old,” Dr. Jivraj said. “Most of those people would be happier with dental implants because they are more like real teeth.”
Dental implants screw into a patient’s jaw bone as an anchor for a prosthetic tooth on top. With the groundbreaking All on Four dental implants, patients without their upper and/or lower teeth can get a full set of false teeth with only four implants in each jaw.
“While we believe implants are the best solution for many of our patients,” Dr. Reshad said, “some patients have other factors that outweigh the benefits of implants.”
Dr. Jivraj and Dr. Reshad have 4 tips to know if someone is a poor candidate for dental implants. You are not a good candidate if you:
1. Have chronic health conditions that are out of control. Uncontrolled heart disease and diabetes are examples. A patient who is healthy enough for a routine dental procedure is usually enough for a dental implant. However, those with risk factors that prevent oral surgery must get them under control before getting implants.
2. Have poor oral hygiene. Dental implants must be cared for like normal teeth. A patient will not get the full benefit of implants if they do not care for them properly. Plus, patients with a history of poor oral care often have bone or gum infections, which must be cared for before getting implants.
3. Are too young. As we grow from children to adults, our jawbone grows and establishes our permanent smile. Placing an implant too soon could disturb this movement.
4. Have radiation treatments to the jaw bone or take intravenous bisphosphonates. Both can interfere with your jaw healing after surgery.
