New Orleans, La (PRWEB) July 03, 2014
Neil Haley, The Total Tutor host of the Total Celebrity Show, interviewed NFL star Benjamin Watson to find out about his foundation, The Fatherhood Initiative, and to get his thoughts on the upcoming NFL season.
Watson, who currently plays tight end for the New Orleans Saints, was named to the all-SEC team during his senior year at the University of Georgia and was drafted in the 1st round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, where he won a Super Bowl championship. After leaving New England as a free agent, he signed a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns and led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. In spring 2013, he left Cleveland and signed a three-year contract with the New Orleans Saints.
According to Watson, he stays busy off the field with his foundation, One More (http://www.watsononemore.org), his growing family, and his involvement with the NFL Players Association, where he serves on the Executive Committee.
He, his wife Kirsten and their four children currently reside in New Orleans.
In the interview, Watson explained that he grew up in a family that wanted to help people in need, so he decided to start his foundation in 2009 when he was living in New England.
The foundation, said Watson, is intended to spread the love and hope of Christ to one more soul. He grew up in a family that wanted to help people in need.
“Jesus meets the physical needs of kids but also tells them how to save their soul," said Watson. “Our foundation wants to help them with material needs but also help nourish their soul."
"We have a football clinic this weekend. We will have 150 kids at the camp. We will teach them football basics, but also talk to their sprits to tell them about the lord and discipline and self control.”
Watson said he's excited to see how many kids attend the camp every year. He said he knows that they care that he came and spoke to them directly. Watson also thanked his group of volunteers, explaining that they are the ones who help make sure the events are successful.
In addition, Watson discussed being involved with the Fatherhood Initiative. Watson was invited to be part of it by Dr. Meg Meeker, a pediatrician who started this program.
“She would get fathers in the NFL that are not perfect but are involved,” Watson said. “You can be a great father if you are willing to let God use you as an instrument. We put together a video for the NFLPA and NFL websites."
When discussing the upcoming NFL season, Watson became excited and shared his optimism that his team will have a great year. “There are a few teams in NFL that have a chance. I have great respect for the Saints organization and we have such great support from the fans. I believe the Saints really have a chance to win the Super Bowl. We won our first road playoff game last year but then lost to the eventual Super Bowl champs. We believe this year can be special this year.”
CEO of Simply G Media GJ Reynolds said, " I am impressed by how Benjamin has used his platform to help his community in a positive way. Benjamin is doing great things!"
