Darrin teaches a common jazz chord progression, 1 6 2 5, that incorporates a walking bass line that can be performed using various picking techniques. Darrin starts off by going over the chords that are used in the progression as follows; GM7, (G major seven), first finger 3rd fret of the 6th string, 5th string muted, 4th fret of 4th string with 3rd finger, 4th fret 3rd string with 3rd finger, 3rd fret 2nd string with 2nd finger, first string muted. Next is E7#9, (E seven sharp nine), 7th fret of the 5th string with 2nd finger, 6th fret 4th string with first finger, 7th fret 3rd string with 3rd finger and 8th fret 2nd string with 4th finger. Next is Am7, (A minor seven), 5th fret 6th string with first finger, 5th string muted, 5th fret 4th string with 2nd finger, 5th fret 3rd string with 3rd finger and 5th fret 2nd string with 4th finger. And finally a D9, 5th fret 5th string with 2nd finger, 4th fret 4th string with first finger, 5th fret 3rd string with 3rd finger and 5th fret 2nd string with 4th finger. Next Goodman says that it can be played with fingers or a pick and that the walking bass line is made by picking the note one half step below the root for the first two chords and then one half step above for the second two chords.
