Written by storyteller Melinda Long and illustrated by Caldecott Medal winner David Shannon, “How I Became a Pirate” was the recipient of the 2004 Book Sense Book of the Year Award for Children's Illustrated, as well as a New York Times and Los Angeles Times bestseller. The interactive app adaptation is now available on the App Store℠ for $3.99.

Children can further engage with the story by tapping pictures of the pirates, parrot, or other characters and objects to hear custom sound effects and funny narration. The “How I Became a Pirate” app also includes Oceanhouse Media’s Record and Share feature, enabling readers to record their own voices reading the book to share with friends and family.
