Bank Street College of Education, a leader in adult and childhood education and development, was recently included in a four-year grant of $3.5 million for Bank Street math faculty to work with Education Development Center (EDC), ICF, Indiana University, and Teachers College, Columbia University. The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Education.
The project will conduct a randomized controlled trial with 4th and 5th grade teachers and students in Chicago Public Schools to test the efficacy of “Math for All,” a professional development program developed by EDC and Bank Street College of Education and published by Corwin Press.
“We’re excited about this opportunity to test a groundbreaking multimedia professional development program that uses collaboration between special education and general education teachers to provide high quality, standards-based math instruction,” says Barbara Dubitsky, longtime Bank Street math faculty member and co-author of “Math for All.”
Bank Street Graduate School adjunct faculty member Babette Moeller, Principal Investigator on this project, is the lead author of the “Math for All” series, which she developed with several other faculty members in Bank Street’s Leadership in Mathematics Education master’s program.
In addition to the success of “Math for All,” the College is piloting a version of its Math Leadership programs to make it possible for students to do the fieldwork/advisement portion of their master’s degrees entirely online, and has had great success in hosting a free online professional development program for math teachers called Math Place Online.
