6WIND, a developer of packet processing software, is announcing the final call to enter its software development contest, called SPEED MATTERS: The Challenge, which will reward creativity, execution and planning for savvy technology professionals, and is open to the public at large.
“We are sponsoring an implementation contest based on DPDK (Data Plane Development Kit),” stated Vincent Jardin, CTO of 6WIND. “The objective of our contest is for applicants to enter novel applications that have been designed using DPDK. Entries can take multiple forms including white papers, proof-of-concepts and finished products. We believe that by sharing implementation examples, we can increase the knowledge of the broader community to lend expertise in building high-performance networking applications with Linux.”
DPDK is a set of data plane libraries and network interface controller drivers for fast packet processing. Available under open-source BSD license, developers can create high performance network applications on the Linux platform with open source license support.
6WIND is a founding member of http://dpdk.org, which is a major open source community that enables high performance Linux networking applications such as network functions virtualization (NFV).
6WIND’s 6WINDGate™ packet processing software delivers a number of value-added enhancements to the DPDK library that provide increased system functionality and performance compared to the baseline software. This includes add-ons for crypto support and third party Network Interface Cards (NICs). The 6WINDGate fast path implements a complete, high performance, ready to use networking stack on top of DPDK without the need to modify existing Linux applications, in both physical and virtual environments, and delivering over 10x performance improvements versus standard Linux.
Winners of SPEED MATTERS: The Challenge will be announced via 6WIND at Hot Interconnects in Google’s Mountain View Headquarters on August 26, 2014, during the evening reception.
The deadline to enter SPEED MATTERS is Friday, August 1 at 11:59 pm PST. To enter and learn more about the contest and prizes, please visit: http://www.6wind.com/speed-matters-information/
