This August, San Francisco Bay Area-based comedians Abhay Nadkarni and Samson Koletkar bring you the “Desi Comedy Fest”, a comedy festival featuring some of the funniest and most talented South Asian comedians. This festival is the first of kind in America and will be held in venues all across the Bay Area.

“Samson and I started talking about this back in February after a show. We have a huge South Asian community in the U.S. and they love stand-up comedy, so why not have a comedy festival featuring up and coming South Asian comics. There’s a burgeoning comedy renaissance right now. A lot of my friends keep asking me about the comedy scene and are interested in knowing more about South Asian comics. This would be a great platform to bridge that gap,” says Abhay Nadkarni, a comedian from Bangalore, India, who now lives in San Francisco. He’s been performing since 2009 and in 2013 was selected to be in the San Luis Obispo Comedy Festival. Later this year he will be performing at the Burbank and Ventura Comedy Festivals in Southern California. He also hosts his own monthly show, called Comic Confessions, in the Mission District of San Francisco.

“With a constant rise in the number of South Asians taking to the comedy stage and a rising demand for South Asian comedy it was only a matter of time before someone came up with something like this. I enjoy performing and producing theme shows and identified the void and decided to fill it. We are starting with the Bay Area but hopefully we will be able to make this an annual affair and attract comedians from beyond the Bay Area to LA, West Coast, U.S., and North America, and someday perhaps even bring over South Asian comedians from all over the world.” Co-producer Samson has entertained audiences with his cerebral, witty, thought-provoking, clean humor in India, Canada & U.S. and has been featured on NBC, CBS & NPR. He is the producer of Mahatma Moses Comedy Tour, which has performed 17 shows in 10 cities coast-to-coast, and a featured member of Funatical Comedy Tour with shows in U.S. and Canada.

Joining Abhay & Samson are comedians Dhaya Lakshminarayanan (Comedy Central Asia), Imran G (Walk The Plank Comedy Competition Winner), Kabir Singh (featured on Starz Network), Priya Prasad (Boston & LA Comedy Festival), Rajeev Dhar (Host of Troubled Comedy Night), Richard Sarvate (Redwood Comedy Festival), Shanti Charan (SF Weekly’s Best Stand-Up on the Way Up), and Tushar Singh (Laughing Skull Comedy Festival)
