State Theatre’s Interim President & CEO Warren R. Zimmerman announced that on July 1, 2014, for the sixth consecutive year, the not-for-profit State Theatre has started its fiscal year with a balanced budget. Zimmerman attributed the balanced budget to the theater’s highest grossing ticket sales in its history, diverse programming, and exceeding the year’s fundraising goals.
Chief among the highlights of the theater’s 2013-2014 season were: ticket revenue of $6 million, the highest in the theater’s history; the most successful annual gala benefit ever, which raised more than $765,000; and, exceeding the annual fundraising goal with $2.4 million.
Revenues from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014 increased, as did ticket sales. Zimmerman said the theater realized a 4 percent increase over the previous season. The 2013-2014 season also signaled a high for the theater’s arts education programming and participation. Nearly 35,000 people from 19 counties in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, participated in more than 190 education events—student performances, artist residencies, Pre-Performance Insights, and other programs.
Zimmerman added that the theater provided some $157,000 worth of free programs to disadvantaged children and adults.
On the operations side, Zimmerman reported 210 performances drew a total of over 227,000 patrons; 150 were State Theatre-presented performers of various genres and the remaining 60 were presented by other organizations renting the theater.
In other news, Zimmerman announced the following promotions, including that of Brian O’Boyle to Vice President of Programming & Marketing, Dave Hartkern to Vice President of Operations, and Anna Marie Gewirtz to Vice President of Development & Strategic Partnerships.
“The State Theatre continues to thrive and this is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated Board and staff,” said Zimmerman. “We are proud of these three individuals and all that they have done to contribute to the success of this organization.”
- Brian O’Boyle (Vice President of Programming & Marketing), joined the State Theatre in 2011. In his expanded role, O’Boyle will oversee the marketing, sales, and the ticket office departments. He will continue to program and expand the State Theatre’s diverse line-up of events.
- Dave Hartkern (Vice President of Operations), who has worked with the State Theatre for 26 years since its reopening as a performing arts center, will manage all theater operations including the front-of-house staff, maintenance, as well as the production department.
- Anna Marie Gewirtz (Vice President of Development & Strategic Partnerships), who joined the State Theatre last year, will continue to lead the development office, generating charitable contributions to make up the difference between operating revenues and expenses while strengthening and building new institutional partnerships.
