Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) August 11, 2014
A new Indiegogo.com campaign kicked off today – Producers, Mark Wolper, Steve Sunshine, Spencer Proffer and David Geha, along with Phillipa Sledge are raising funds for a new, musical comedy headed for Broadway & need the public’s help. The musical is “Serrano,” a fresh take on the French classic Cyrano De Bergerac set in “the mob” in New York’s Little Italy. It’s “Cyrano meets the Sopranos” and till now has only been presented in a series of staged readings and workshops, inspiring standing ovations in both New York and Los Angeles. Through Indiegogo.com, the producers hope to raise $100,000 to mount a 12-week run of “Serrano” with a Broadway cast and director, at Joe Stern’s iconic Matrix Theatre in Los Angeles. This is an opportunity to see and support this show in Los Angeles, BEFORE it hits Broadway!
When asked “Why Indiegogo?” Emmy award winning producer Steve Sunshine said, “As theatre lovers we’ve invested quite a bit of our own money over the past few years working with the author and composer to develop the project and attract an amazing cast and director. Now we need the public’s help to take “Serrano” from staged readings to staged performances, and there’s no better vehicle for that than Indiegogo.”
Producer Mark Wolper added “With our collective Hollywood ties we can offer unique and valuable reward levels to our Indiegogo backers, from spending a week shadowing TV legend Joel Zwick (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) on a show he’s directing, to signed Serrano memorabilia bundled with tickets to The Voice, or American Idol or Dancing with the Stars… to a day on the red carpet with producers of EXTRA and getting to interview a celebrity.” Sunshine concluded, “Our Indiegogo campaign is aimed at anyone who wants to be part of an exciting, once in a lifetime theatrical experience. And there are rewards for every level of donor.
Extra host, Mario Lopez says of Serrano, “"I was fortunate enough to see a staged reading of "Serrano"…… it’s a sure fire hit! I love musical theater and my wife and I left that night singing the songs and laughing at the lines! "
The producers are asking folks to visit their website and listen to the original songs and help spread the word about this unique Indiegogo campaign, and the amazing experiences being offered. Or you can visit their Facebook Fan page and encourage your friends to “like” it too, to receive updates and progress reports. If successful, the run will begin in January 2015 at The Matrix theatre in Hollywood, California.
