A weekend studded with ping pong's brightest stars.

The International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) annual Table Tennis World Cup will take place at the ISS Dome, October 24-26, and the line up promises a weekend studded with the sport’s brightest stars.
Dimitrij Ovtcharov, the current European champion who has competed at the World Cup seven times and at the Olympics and World Championships, happens to be from Düsseldorf and will try to win on his home turf after scoring third in Belgium last year. Ovtcharov’s biggest rivals will be from China. Olympic and World Champion Zhang Jike, against whom Ovtcharov won at the team finals during the World Championship in Tokyo; and Ma Long, top player at the World Championships, who defeated Ovtcharov in Japan.
Japan’s top player, Jun Mitzutani, is qualified for the World Cup, as are former European champion Michael Maze from Denmark and Portugal’s Marcos Freitas, who won the European World Cup qualifications in February. Local favorite Timo Boll’s participation is not confirmed yet but likely.
In total, 20 players will play in Düsseldorf for the World Cup and the $150,000 pooled prize. The winner will receive $45,000.
