In honor of the 30th Anniversary of the World Medical Mission Foundation in 2016, Filipino singer, Lourdes Duque Baron, has established the 501(c)(3) Hope For The World Foundation to launch the first annual fundraising campaign. The World Medical Mission USA Foundation, a non-profit organization that has been providing medical and surgical treatment all throughout the Philippines for the past 28 years now. In 2012, the medical mission traveled to four areas; Surigao, Tagkawayan, Quezon, Lucena, Quezon and Rio Tuba, Palawan. View the mission’s video from 2012 here.
The Medical Mission also travels regularly to Tecate, Mexico to provide medical treatment and food to those in need at the Trinitarians of Mary Order founded by Mother Lillie, who is also involved in the project. Over the years, the World Medical Mission has helped hundreds of thousands of those in need.
To commemorate the anniversary and launch the campaign, Lourdes Duque Baron will hold a benefit concert in January 2015 at Boulevard 3 in Hollywood, California. The singer, who recently launched her music career with the release of her debut CD, “Feeling Good At Any Age,” explains her music is a stepping-stone to this greater mission. She explained the medical treatment is so important and that “everybody should have a chance in life.”
Over the next years, the campaign will fund the healthcare mission and subsidize food and medical supplies focusing on children and those in need in the developing world. The programs will advance the organization’s initiatives in all areas of medicine under the direction of Dr. Robinson V. Baron and their daughter, Stephanie Baron, P.A.-C, director and the next generation of the medical mission.
Robinson V. Baron, MD is a surgeon who specializes in general surgery in Covina, California. He is 1 of only 2 surgeons certified in robotic surgery. He was elected first Chief of Staff of the Citrus Valley Health Partners and President of the Philippine Medical Association of Southern California in 1994-1996. Additionally, he is serving an unprecedented third time as Chief of Staff at Citrus Valley Health Partners. He fulfilled his fellowship at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Memorial in Manhattan, New York; completed his residency in General Surgery in Easton and Philadelphia; and his internship in Kenmore and Glendora, California. Dr. Baron is one of the Twelve Outstanding Filipino-American Health Care Professionals honored by Los Angeles City Council in December 14, 2007.
The goal of the Hope For the World Foundation is to raise $1 million. The goal is an ambitious one, but will be instrumental in the mission’s effort to deliver quality healthcare services to the most vulnerable and impoverished people across the world. The Hope For the World Foundation is committed to fostering partnerships with sponsors and donors in order to support the medical mission as well as providing perishable and non-perishable goods to the community.
