The Truth About Drugs educational materials get to the heart of the issue. By providing the facts, potential users can make self-determined decisions to live drug-free lives.

In an ironic turn of events, although Florida’s crackdown on prescription painkiller abuse is credited by the Centers for Disease Control with a two-year decline in the number of deaths from opioid abuse, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) reports that at the same time, deaths from heroin in Florida rose 89 percent between 2011 to 2012 - and Fox News reported last week the Florida is suffering from a massive outbreak of hepatitis C infection among youth “who started opioid use before transitioning to heroin injection.”

“Unless we concentrate on education in any drug prevention strategy, we risk this kind of tragedy—the substitution of one deadly drug for another,” says Julietta Santagostino, director of the Florida Chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World. “The Truth About Drugs educational materials get to the heart of the issue. By providing the facts, potential users can make self-determined decisions to live drug-free lives.”

It was for exactly that purpose that young volunteers donned signature aqua T-shirts and handed out copies of The Truth About Drugs booklets to bring the facts of these dangerous substances to Clearwater residents and visitors.

Scientologists on five continents work in their communities throughout the year to empower others with the truth about drugs. The Church and its members are dedicated to eradicating drug abuse through education.

The Church of Scientology supports The Truth About Drugs drug education and prevention initiative. To make this and the other humanitarian and social betterment initiatives it supports even more broadly available, the Church of Scientology has published a new brochure, Voice for Humanity—Real Help, Real Results.

Inspired by the words of L. Ron Hubbard, Founder of the Scientology religion, that “a being is only as valuable as he can serve others,” Scientologists wholeheartedly support these programs. Participation and collaboration in these initiatives is invited and welcomed from all who seek to improve conditions for themselves and others.
