Take part in World Suicide Prevention Day

Wednesday, the tenth of September is World Suicide Prevention Day: In view of recent statistics, it becomes more and more important to identify signals of people thinking about suicide. The London-based t-shirt printing company Garment Printing supports events taking place in Belfast and Castlereagh initiated by the survivors of suicide support group, by printing t-shirts at a significant charity discount.

(PRWEB UK) 4 September 2014

The Survivors of Suicide (SOS) support group is committed to helping not only persons exhibiting suicidal behaviour, but also families bereaved by suicide.

For the World Suicide Prevention Day, SOS organises two events in the east Belfast and Castlereagh area. On September 6th, the SOS Walk of Dawn takes place, which is open for everyone to participate. The walk starts at Holywood Arches Library at 6 a.m. and concludes at City Hall, where a service of reflection will take place at 7 a.m.

On September 10th, an awareness event will be held at Connswater Community Centre from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be entertainment for children and adults, a BBQ, an information stand. The event closes at 8 p.m. with a candlelight vigil to join people all over the world in remembering those lost to suicide.

The support group also offers SAFE TALK trainings, free of charge. These trainings help people identify if another is thinking about suicide, and gives resources for help and support in the community.

“We love to help people make a difference in this world. And in a situation where only understanding the signs can make all the difference, we are happy to help raise awareness by sponsoring the organisers and spreading the word.” Says Gavin Drake, Director at Garment Printing.

The company has screen-printed t-shirts for both events at a significant discount, to help the charity use resources where they are really needed. Garment Printing offers this to all its charity clients: since August 2013, a price beat promise for charities is in place, to support good causes.

Almost 6000 people committed suicide in the UK in 2012, with an average of 300 people per year in Northern Ireland (population of 1.7 million people) alone. Many of these suicides could possibly have been prevented through understanding the signs of suicidal behaviour and providing appropriate professional help.
