Not only is this an opportunity for us to have some fun with our guests but also a way for us to give back to Dessin. Hopefully, a few of our guests will be adopting and heading back home with a new furry family member

The staff at Woodloch Pines, an all-inclusive family resort in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, never shy away from a chance to get involved in a cause to better the community. After the resort’s fundraising efforts last year, which benefited everything from local food shelters and schools to soldiers serving abroad, Woodloch’s staff was ready for their next challenge.

Knowing that the local animal shelter was in desperate need of financial assistance, staff jumped at the chance to help. Dessin Animal Shelter, a nonprofit, no-kill shelter located in Honesdale, PA, only 30 minutes from Woodloch, has been home to thousands of abandoned animals. In an attempt to save the shelter from closing, the staff at Woodloch raised over $1,500 in individual donations alone. On Thursday, September 4, Sarina Betz, Woodloch’s Executive and Human Resources Assistant, presented a generous donation to the shelter on behalf of the staff at the Poconos resort.

In addition to these donations, the all-inclusive resort will host Com-PET-ition Weekend from October 3-5, which will feature pet-themed games and fundraising events such as: dog basket amazing races, horseracing, cat hammock scavenger hunts, specialty-themed cake wars, and a petting zoo. There will also be a cook-out and carnival on October 4th, which local community members are welcome to attend in exchange for a $25 donation. Dessin will also bring animals to Woodloch to be adopted by guests and staff.

“Not only is this an opportunity for us to have some fun with our guests but also a way for us to give back to Dessin. Hopefully, a few of our guests will be adopting and heading back home with a new furry family member," said Joey Ranner, Woodloch’s Social Director.

Donations are also being accepted through the webpage that the resort’s Social Staff operate, The Woodloch Edge. Interested donors can make contributions on the website, and in turn, pictures of themselves and their pets will be published on the website’s Pet Scrapbook photo gallery: woodlochedge.com/com-pet-itionweekend.

Rates for Com-PET-ition Weekend start at $199 per adult, per night, and a portion of all proceeds raised will benefit the Dessin Animal Shelter. For more information, please call 1.800.453.8263, or visit woodloch.com/specials/com-pet-ition-weekend.
