... the Discogs image cache is essential for non-trivial access to Discogs images. The 1000 image per day limit is too limiting for most app developers.

OneMusicAPI, the low cost music metadata database, have announced a new image API, incorporating a cache of Discogs images. In addition to its existing textual metadata APIs, OneMusicAPI is now able to serve images of musical releases, filterable by image size.

In addition, and importantly for developers who use the Discogs API, OneMusicAPI now serves and caches Discogs release images. This cache enables developers who rely on Discogs images to consume more than the recently-imposed 1000 images-per-day limit.

OneMusicAPI works as an aggregation layer of existing online music metadata sources. By aggregating and abstracting them, OneMusicAPI is able to isolate developers from changes in those multiple metadata sources, while still retaining the vast release catalogues available through the combined databases; around 5,000,000 albums, EPs and singles.

Dan Gravell, founder of OneMusicAPI, said "Providing access to the images themselves completes the puzzle for application developers looking to use OneMusicAPI for cover art lookup. Instead of having to download images from external APIs, which are subject to change, developers can now rest assured they can call OneMusicAPI directly and we won't deprecate or remove APIs used by paying customers. In addition, the Discogs image cache is essential for non-trivial access to Discogs images. The 1000 image per day limit is too limiting for most app developers".

OneMusicAPI is a RESTful JSON API. Developers must request an API key and may test it for 1000 lookups. After that, access costs £15 per 100,000 lookups, £150 per month for metadata access or £300 per month for metadata and image access. Tailored packages are available on request. Interested developers should contact api(at)onemusicapi(dot)com for more information. As per elsten software's promise to their customers, the existing version of the API will not be shut down until all users of the API have migrated.
