Visual Steam is pleased to announce the results of its annual survey of art buyers regarding their use of stock photography and video. Getty Images (http://www.gettyimages.com), iStock Photo (http://www.istockphoto.com), and Thinkstock (http://www.thinkstock.com) take the top spots as the first-stop for buyers with Shutterstock (http://www.shutterstock.com) pushed down to #4.

“Art buyers tell us that stock agencies can do better. Searching for stock imagery is difficult and takes too much time. Even so, nearly all use stock imagery in the majority of their projects. And, 60% say their use of stock images will increase.

In June 2014, Visual Steam (http://www.visualsteam.com) surveyed thousands of U.S. art buyers, art directors, art producers, creative directors and marketing professionals to better understand stock image buying behavior today (still photography and motion). The company has published the results of this survey on the company’s website.

The survey results provide a glimpse into what is driving stock image licensing today, how clients perceive top destinations, and what stock image providers can do better. Results indicate that more buyers are using both stills and motion; more buyers license traditional royalty free than any other license type; and, the majority of buyers will sacrifice quality for price even though they say quality is more important. Leslie Hughes, Visual Steam’s Founder and CEO, said, “Art buyers tell us that stock agencies can do better. Searching for stock imagery is difficult and takes too much time. Even so, nearly all use stock imagery in the majority of their projects. Additionally, 60% say their use of stock images will increase in the coming year.”
