With the opening of the Draw and close proximity to local high schools and colleges, we feel this new location for Uptown Cheapskate is perfect not only for our shoppers but for the Sugar House community.

The Uptown Cheapskate franchise is excited to announce the Grand Opening of its new flagship store located at the corner of 2100 S. and 1300 E. in the newly developed Westminster at the Draw building in Sugar House. The Grand Opening weekend begins Thursday, October 16 at 4:00 pm, when customers will be able to shop for trendy second hand clothing and accessories. Unlike a traditional thrift store, this teen and young adult fashion reseller pays shoppers cash for their gently used, name brand clothes, shoes and other apparel items and resells them at up to 70 percent less than retail.

The Sugar House location will be a corporate-owned flagship store - making it the second corporate-owned store and the 43rd Uptown Cheapskate franchise location.

Co-founders and brother-sister team Scott Sloan and Chelsea Carroll opened their first store in 2009 in downtown Salt Lake City. Since then the franchise has grown with store locations in 17 states.

“Both Chelsea and I have been looking forward to placing a store in Sugar House area for quite some time,” said Sloan. “With our Grand Opening right around the corner, it’s exciting to reflect upon the rapid growth Uptown Cheapskate has experienced over the last five years as well as be part of a growing industry that is quickly becoming more widely accepted—even preferred.”

Uptown Cheapskate focuses on buying current styles of name brand and designer clothing, shoes and accessories that appeal to a wide range of teens and young adults. After the Grand Opening, Uptown Cheapskate will pay customers cash on the spot or 25 percent more in store credit for their gently used items.

“Sugar House is experiencing a rebirth, so to speak, that’s attracting a lot of new businesses to the area,” said Carroll. “With the opening of the Draw and close proximity to local high schools and colleges, we feel this new location for Uptown Cheapskate is perfect not only for our shoppers but for the Sugar House community.”

In addition to carrying hundreds of recycled items, the new Uptown Cheapskate store will also offer many new products including jewelry, shoes and assorted clothing items.
