Tourists are flocking to Florida in record breaking numbers, according to recent figures released by Visit Florida. More people than ever from around the world are eager to experience the many attractions of The Sunshine State.

UK online travel agent, Globehunters, will be offering big savings on holidays in Florida this autumn with deals on self-catering and hotel accommodation, as well as flights to cities throughout The Sunshine State.

The Visit Florida survey revealed that an estimated 24 million tourists arrived in the second quarter of 2014, before the peak summer season had even began.

Estimates for overseas visitors to Florida in the same period also projected record figures. Visit Florida estimated that approximately 3.8 million foreign visitors came to Florida in the second quarter, 2.8 million of which were from outside North America.

"This year we invested $74 million into Visit Florida, and set a goal to have 100 million visitors in the Sunshine State, which we are well on our way to reaching," said Governor Rick Scott. "Together we are creating an opportunity economy, and continuing to grow more jobs for Floridians with more than 1.1 million individuals employed in the growing tourism industry."

Will Seccombe, President and CEO, Visit Florida said: "With occupancy, rooms sold, average daily room rate and tourism and recreation taxable sales all continuing to climb, we are well on our way to making Florida the No. 1 travel destination in the world.”

The success follows increased marketing spend by Visit Florida in European markets in 2012. This was largely focused on bringing more visitors from the UK, Germany and France.

The Miami area also announced record setting visitor numbers last year. 14.2 million overnight visitors visited the flamboyant southern Florida city last year.

There are also plans to increase tourism in Florida’s lesser known areas. The Emerald Coast in the north west of Florida has declared its intentions to specifically attract more UK visitors in coming years.
