National autism expert to share strategies for working with children and adults with autism in schools, at home and in the community. The Phoenix Center, a leader in special education, offers this program for parents, teachers and other professionals.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ball and to offer this excellent program to other educators and families,” said Dr. Geraldine Gibbia, co-founder and executive director of The Phoenix Center.

The Phoenix Center, a private non-profit school in Nutley, will host nationally-recognized autism expert Dr. James Ball for a day-long training program designed for educators and parents.

The event, “Evidence-Based Strategies for Working with Individuals on the Autism Spectrum in the Classroom and in the Community” is designed to be informative and practical so attendees will leave with a skill set they can implement at home, in school or in the community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ball and to offer this excellent program to other educators and families,” said Dr. Geraldine Gibbia, co-founder and executive director of The Phoenix Center.

Ball will discuss systematic techniques for teaching students with an autism spectrum disorder and will focus on teaching specific skills, enhancing motivation, and helping students learn to use new skills in all settings. He will present step-by-step demonstrations using real life examples. A cross-disciplinary panel from The Phoenix Center staff will discuss practical applications of the strategies presented for classroom and community settings.

James Ball, Ed.D., BCBA-D, has been providing preschool, educational, residential and employment services to children and adults affected by autism spectrum disorders for more than 25 years. A sought after speaker and writer, Ball is the author of “Early Intervention and Autism: Real-life Questions, Real-life Answers.”

The event will take place on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 8:30 AM at The Phoenix Center, 16 Monsignor Owens Place, Nutley, NJ 07506. Tuition for the daylong event is $175. For more information go to
