A historic estate once owned by Charles Carroll, who signed the Declaration of Independence, is for sale for $7 million with The Creig Northrop Team of Long & Foster Real Estate. The estate, located at 3925 Folly Quarter Road in Ellicott City, Md. includes an 8,000-square-foot manor home built in 1936 by the owners of Pimlico Race Track.

The 54-acre estate includes a 1,800-square-foot guest cottage and caretaker cottage, a 10-stall horse barn and grazing pastures, outbuildings, a tennis court and trout stream. Surrounded by lawns and gardens, the home also includes an outdoor terrace and in-ground pool overlooking a pond.

“This prestigious luxury estate is one of the most spectacular properties in all of Maryland,” said Creig Northrop, president of the Northrop Team and listing agent for the estate. “The manor home has been extensively restored and enhanced to offer modern amenities, while preserving the history and character of the original home. This home is a dream come true for anyone who loves nature as well as those who would love to own a piece of American history.”

The manor home’s main level includes entertaining and family living spaces. The gallery hall has a barrel ceiling, and the banquet-sized dining room is paneled in hand-milled mahogany with a classical adorned ceiling. The living room includes hand-painted canvas walls and a prominent fireplace. Pocket doors open to a library with floor-to-ceiling paneled walls and built-in bookcases.

The second floor of the home includes the master wing. Double doors lead to the suite, lined with concealed floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobes and a walk-in closet. The suite also includes glass-paneled doors, providing views of the property that open to a private balcony. The wing features a sitting room with additional built-in wardrobes, a dressing lounge and master bath with Carrera marble floors and vanity, a jetted tub and Tiffany chandelier.

The home’s lower level includes additional space to entertain and opens to the outdoor patio and pool. The family room offers a full-service entertainment bar with Old World handcrafted details. In addition, the lower level has a mirror-walled fitness room, guest bedroom and full bathroom.

A fence with electronic gated entrances surrounds the entire estate.
