Steckler LLP achieves settlement of more than $1 million for the family of a man killed by an LSG Sky Chefs company truck at DFW airport.

We were pleased that the company extended this settlement to the De La Paz family for the death of Mr. De La Paz and we hope it prevents situations like this in the future.

Bruce Steckler and Lance Pool of the Dallas-based law firm Steckler LLP, represented the family of a man struck by a company catering truck owned by LSG Sky Chefs in a catastrophic personal injury case in Dallas County, Texas.

In March of 2012, LSG Sky Chefs employee Faustino De La Paz was killed by a catering truck that was owned and operated by his employer, according to court documents. Mr. De La Paz died in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 18 2012 at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the accident, which occurred at the loading dock section of the Sky Chefs catering building. The large catering truck was used to deliver food from the facility to the planes.

"It's the kitchen area of the company where they load the trucks with the food," said airport spokesman David Magaña, according to court documents. "The trucks then go to the planes and load them up."

According to court documents, after the truck struck and killed Mr. De La Paz, he suffered chest trauma and was pronounced dead in the ambulance at the scene. He was 53 years old at the time of his death.

The case was scheduled to go to trial in Dallas County in August of 2014. Mr. Steckler and Mr. Pool were prepared to present evidence of the Plaintiff's allegations that the driver of the truck was negligent and that the company was responsible for the death of Mr. De La Paz. On the morning trial was set to begin, LSG Sky Chefs settled the case, and agreed to pay $3,000,000.00 to the plaintiffs, according to Settlement documents. After attorneys’ fees and expenses, the family of Mr. De La Paz will receive $1,715,734.90.

“We hope this case serves as a reminder to companies to enforce the highest standards of safety,” said Bruce Steckler, founding partner of Steckler LLP. “We were pleased that the company extended this settlement to the De La Paz family for the death of Mr. De La Paz and we hope it prevents situations like this in the future.”
