LivingHomes Announces First Crowd Funding Campaign to Support New LivingHome for Non-profit Make It Right in New Orleans

LivingHomes®announces the launch of its first crowd funding campaign to support a LivingHome it designed for Make It Right's community in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans. The new LivingHome will showcase leading sustainable materials, technologies and design strategies at Greenbuild, the world’s largest green building conference, October 23-24, in New Orleans.

LivingHomes®, a premier developer of modern, sustainably designed, prefabricated homes, announces the launch of its first crowd funding campaign to support a LivingHome it designed for Make It Right. The LivingHome was selected to be the first official showhome of Greenbuild, the world’s largest green building conference, and will showcase leading sustainable materials, technologies and design strategies. It will be available for tour October 22-23, 2014 at the New Orleans Convention Center during Greenbuild. Afterwards, the LivingHome will be permanently installed at Make It Right’s community in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans, LA.

The crowd funding campaign, launching today on Indigogo, https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/we-re-building-a-livinghome-for-non-profit-mir/x/229627, will help defray significant costs LivingHome incurred to design, manufacture and transport the LivingHome. “This is our first project for an affordable housing non-profit and we’re honored that a LivingHome will be joining Make It Right’s community in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans,” said Steve Glenn, CEO of LivingHomes. “We’re launching our first crowd funding campaign today to help us cover the significant costs we incurred in designing, constructing and transporting the LivingHome. We hope people like the project and choose to support it.’”

The campaign, which runs for 45 days, includes lots of great “Perks” for donations of specific value including tshirts, VIP tours of Make It Right and even nights in the first LivingHome, a modern masterpiece by Ray Kappe, FAIA, which was the first home in the nation to be certified LEED Platinum.

About the LivingHome
The 1550 square foot LivingHome includes 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and ample indoor/outdoor. It features a wrap-around deck and makes extensive use of available natural light. The prefabricated home is comprised of three modules and was manufactured over three weeks at a factory in Texas. The EnergyStar® home is on track to be the first home to be certified Platinum with the new LEED for Homes v4 standards. Platinum is the highest level of certification for the United State Green Building Council’s LEED program, the leading green building certification program in the nation. The LivingHomes includes Cradle to Cradle certified products (c2ccertified.org) that are tested to insure they are healthy for the environment and for a home's residents as well as products and strategies endorsed by the WELL Building Standard (wellbuildinginstitute.com). The LivingHome was selected to be the Greenbuild’s first ever showhome by Hanley Wood, the new owner of Greenbuild, and will be open for tours at booth 1139 at Greenbuild (greenbuildexpo.com) during the conference.

After Greenbuild, the LivingHome will be permanently installed at Make It Right. Make It Right was originally started by Brad Pitt to redevelop a part of the Lower Ninth Ward that was devastated after Hurricane Katrina. Since 2007, the non-profit has built 100 homes in their community designed by world-class architects including Frank Gehry, Thomas Maine, and KieranTimberlake.
