The annual trade show is a good opportunity for any other automotive repair shop to pick up helpful tips and training to better their business and help their customers.

Creech Import Repair was one of several auto shops to participate in the Automotive Service & Technology Expo held in Greensboro earlier this month. The yearly event is organized by the Independent Garage Owners of North Carolina.
“The annual trade show is a good opportunity for any other automotive repair shop to pick up helpful tips and training to better their business and help their customers,” said Stan Creech, owner and president.
Creech is a board member at the state level of IGONC and vice president of the local chapter. He will be chapter president as of 2015.
The conference involved two parts, both held at Koury Convention Center Oct. 3-5. The first was a trade show featuring new products and technology.
The second half included seminars on both the technical and general business aspects of running an auto repair shop. Creech said one that he attended offered eight steps to creating a more profitable business.
“I was able to take away some really helpful management skills from that,” he shared.
Other seminars included topics such as electronic braking systems, air conditioning problem diagnosis, spark ignitions, tire repair and various insights into advancing technology in newer cars. There was even a session on marketing via social media, and how to create a loyal customer following by engaging socially on and offline.
Between 200 and 300 people were in attendance at the conference, which has sold out every year for the past three years.
The expo is held annually in North Carolina, but individual venues vary from year to year. It is the largest automotive aftermarket event in the state.
IGONC is a nonprofit organization established in 1959. In addition to the expo, members can attend monthly chapter meetings, network with others in the independent auto repair industry and access special vendor discounts.
“I’m both really proud to be a part of IGONC, sponsoring this event, and also confident it will benefit my own customers in our everyday operations,” Creech concluded.
