WELLBEATS™, formerly Fitness On Request, the company which first introduced the virtual group fitness concept in 2008, has established an agreement with the Silver&Fit® Exercise and Healthy Aging program to offer virtual exercise classes to Silver&Fit fitness facilities and members nationwide.
Through the WELLBEATS virtual platform, fitness facilities can have unlimited access to virtual older adult group exercise classes led by experienced fitness instructors. Facilities can offer the Silver&Fit video-based classes any time of day, simply by hitting “play.”
Fitness facilities providing this unique experience for older adults may benefit by attracting new members seeking alternative exercise class options, potentially enhancing facility revenues.
Since 2007, Silver&Fit has offered health plans evidence-based fitness and health education activities for their Medicare-eligible members and group retirees who join Silver&Fit to improve their quality of life and reduce health risks through regular exercise. The program provides eligible members with a fully or partially subsidized fitness membership through a broad network of over 11,000 contracted fitness facilities nationwide, including national chains and YMCAs, as well as smaller, local community exercise centers. Silver&Fit reimburses fitness facilities on a monthly basis for all eligible and participating members.

Silver&Fit offers three levels of group exercise programming, created to target participants across a range of fitness levels—from those who may require chair exercises to athletic, older adults who are already fit and active. Through WELLBEATS, the Silver&Fit virtual classes also offer three instructors per class to coach different ability levels of users, adding an even more targeted approach to the experience. The classes provide members with fun, time-efficient, circuit-based workouts that encompass a well-rounded approach to fitness.
According to WELLBEATS’ Director of Education and Content and Producer/Director of Programming Linda Shelton, the goal at WELLBEATS is to empower facilities to look any customer in the eye, regardless of age or demographic, and say, “We have something for you.”
