The International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) is pleased to announce the signature of an Affiliate Agreement with the European, Middle Eastern, and African Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking (ESBB).

ISBER is the only global forum that addresses harmonization of scientific, technical, legal, and ethical issues relevant to repositories of biological and environmental specimens. ISBER is a global organization which creates opportunities for sharing ideas and innovations in biobanking and harmonizes approaches to evolving challenges for biological and environmental repositories. ESBB is a society for people involved in the collection and storage of biological materials from all species. ESBB is focused on Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The ISBER Board of Directors and ESBB Executive Committee have been working diligently to develop a collaboration agreement and ISBER in particular sought to offer reciprocal membership with ESBB. Although this was not feasible, the ISBER Board of Directors invited ESBB to be an Affiliate Organization with the goal of maintaining maximum cooperation between the organizations. The Affiliate Agreement includes various reciprocities for both organizations, although it does not include a reciprocal membership clause. Hence, ESBB will no longer be an ISBER Chapter and will work as an independent organization with an independent membership structure.

ISBER wishes ESBB every success as a standalone organization and looks forward to working with ESBB within the framework of the new Affiliate Agreement for continued success toward advancing the interests of the biobanking community.
