Abu Dhabi (PRWEB) December 09, 2014
The Defence Innovation and Technology Conference (DITEC) 2015 is proud to announce Dr. Harwood as a guest speaker for the two-day conference, to be held on 25th and 26th February 2015. DITEC 2015 is the first conference of its kind in the region, and will establish an excellent platform for the international defence community to discuss and foster innovation. Hosted by the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC), DITEC 2015 will be an integral part of the International Defence and Exhibition Conference (IDEX).
Dr. Harwood is responsible for strategy and business development for the international arm of Boeing Phantom Works (PW). PW looks to lead Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) into new and expanded defence, security and commercial markets with innovative affordable solutions to customer problems.
Dr. Harwood previously served Her Majesty’s Government in the UK Ministry of Defence from the early 1990s through 2008. Serving initially as the Royal Navy’s Electronic Warfare Operations Analyst, he was deployed with many operational vessels to support the Fleets Information Operations capability. This position led to Dr. Harwood becoming one of the initial authors of the MoD’s concept of Network Enabled Capability (NEC) and the Ministry of Defence Architectural Framework (MoDAF).
Dr. Harwood was promoted to Whitehall in the late 1990s, where he worked for the Capability Manager (CM) for Information Superiority as the Principal Scientist for Command and Battle-space Management, which saw him responsible for the research and technology and capability development aspects of the CM’s program.
Dr. Harwood’s last role in the Ministry of Defence was with Niteworks; a partnership between the UK MoD and the industry, providing decision support to enhance current and future capability.
Enrico Villa, Director of Enterprise Development and Innovation at Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee commented, “I am delighted that Dr. Harwood is confirmed as a guest speaker at DITEC 2015. Boeing is a world leader in innovation and Dr. Harwood’s unparalleled knowledge and experience in advanced defense, space, and security R&D will prove invaluable.”
TDC was established to encourage and support the development of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) in Abu Dhabi. It is a multi-stakeholder government body that interfaces between government, business, and academia to realize a sustainable, diversified, and knowledge-based economy.
TDC launched Takamul in 2011 to foster innovation and generate economic and societal value in Abu Dhabi and the UAE. The program supports innovation within knowledge-intensive industries, and aims to transform locally generated ideas into multipurpose activities that will seed economic advancement.
Co-located at IDEX, the DITEC 2015 Conference will take place on 25th and 26th February.
