In March 2014, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) investigated the use of stevia sweetener as a food additive in different segments, taking into consideration the proposed widening of the sweetener’s uses. In June 2014, the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHFPC) carried out a review of sucralose use in food and permitted the extension of its utilization in two more food segments, namely the pre-cooked noodles and rice and edible algae and fungi (the maximum use level of sucralose is 0.6/kg and 0.3g/kg, respectively.

In July, 2014, the NHFPC proposed to revise the maximum Xylo Oligosaccharide (XOS) Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) and increase ADI to 3.0g/day. Moreover, the NHFPC proposed to add corn cob in addition to wheat straw, as a XOS raw material.
