GoodStreets Recruits More Than 25 Local Nonprofits for Small Business Week Celebration

Social enterprise brings innovation to Main Street by creating online opportunities for consumers to support local businesses.

Guilford, CT (PRWEB) May 12, 2014

GoodStreets, an online community of consumers and local business owners, today announced it is initiating a National Small Business Week celebration from Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, 2014. More than 25 local Guilford nonprofits are reaching out to their constituents through a social media campaign designed by GoodStreets to ask them to support the businesses who support them throughout the year.

As a part of the celebration, organization supporters will be asked to eat at local restaurants, shop at local businesses, make appointments for haircuts and massages, sign up at a local gym, and set up meetings to tackle legal questions or insurance policies.

“These businesses are organization sponsors, they donate gift cards, items and services for raffles and auctions, and help promote events by hanging posters and selling tickets,” said Leslie Krumholz, CEO of GoodStreets and co-founder of two nonprofit organizations. “Small Business Week presents a unique opportunity for all the supporters of these organizations to actually give back to the businesses – by buying and sharing locally.”

Participating nonprofits will receive a toolkit from GoodStreets, which gives them template email messages, Facebook posts, images and twitter messages that they can use to inform their constituents about how they can thank local businesses throughout the week.

“Through this celebration, we are trying to make sure some of that purchasing power remains in our local communities if we don’t want to lose the unique character of our Main Streets,” said Krumholz.

The GoodStreets Buy Local First program allows consumers to post requests in an open forum to the business community for products and services they are seeking. The Share Local program encourages consumers to share feedback directly with business owners before posting a review publicly to the site.

“Businesses now have the opportunity to address issues with consumers before a review is posted,” said Josh Lipschutz, co-founder of GoodStreets. “It holds the business owner and the consumer accountable for the information they are sharing online, which makes businesses better in the end. When businesses succeed, the community thrives and everyone benefits.”
