Melody Lemond pens her story to give readers inspiration, hope, renewed motivation

“Such states of shared delight ought not, ideally speaking, be contained within the physical, albeit sanctioned frame of the theatre,” said author Melody Lemond. She set herself the deliberate artistic challenge, inspired by relationships that thrived within the theatre (particularly that of Marcel Marceau) of creating, herself, a spectacle that could flow beyond the construct of its four walls, beyond even time and space. It is only now, after 30 years, that the inspiration has been able to take form in the creation of “Scarlet Fan” (published by Xlibris AU), an allegorical tale told with a poetic vein set in what Lemond envisions to be earth at the dawn of this age.

This is the story of Philomela and her unique quest as she travels as a petal, born of a solitary desert flameflower, through the elements — assuming limbs, fins then wings to assist her. As she travels through the seasons, she meets various other-worldly helpers — an angel-bird, a knight, Mars, Venus, a wise Owl, a god of Time and many others — who provide her with support, encouragement and guidance until she finally reunites with her counterpart, the knight, in an explosion of celebration. From a bare and barren world is born a world full of life.

“It is for the reader to envision the hope this story inspires for this planet’s future,” says Lemond. Spun around her theme of the importance of externalizing one’s dreams, the tale of “Scarlet Fan” addresses the necessity of the careful balance of the outer and the inner, extroversion and introversion, action and intuition, male and female, [yang and yin, going out and coming in — all in one being.
