Glen Laws pens new book following fictional family’s westward journey along Oregon Trail

For several years, author Glen Laws followed part of the Oregon Trail in Wyoming. Inspired by the ruggedness and perseverance of the pioneers who made their way down that trail over a century ago, he wrote “The Last Wagon Train West” (published by Xlibris) to show how life would have been like on that journey.

The year is 1867 and the westward push from the East is in full swing. Over 200,000 emigrants are making their way across the Oregon Trail in search of the Promised Land. It is a perilous journey across a harsh land rife with the threat of outlaws and hostile Indians. The story follows the life and struggles of the Martin family as they made their way across the country from Missouri. The tale of Mary Martin’s suitors presents a refreshing counterpoint to the many dangers along their route, showing that there is still time for romance even in such challenging circumstances.

In “The Last Wagon Train West,” Laws presents a factual snapshot of how life was like for pioneers making their way along the Oregon Trail. Though the journey is described in many historical texts, this book shows the human aspect of the pioneers’ odyssey with the intention of fostering an appreciation of their bravery and heroic efforts from the readers.
