The nonprofit Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI) today announced that it has expanded its curriculum of lean management workshops with seven new sessions that show executives, managers, and continuous improvement professionals how to implement and sustain lean management systems, behaviors, and company cultures.
The seven sessions will debut in Miami, FL, January 26-29, 2015, as part of a comprehensive 17-workshop training curriculum.
The new sessions provide critical help with such issues as coaching, problem solving, leading teams, developing a model for the lean transformation, assessing the transformation’s progress, creating policies and practices for lean human resources, and applying lean concepts to office and service work.
The workshops will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Miami. Tuition ranges from $800 to $1,600 and includes all participant materials, breakfast, lunch, and snacks each day.

What is Lean?
The terms lean production, lean manufacturing -- or more correctly lean management -- refer to a complete business system for organizing and managing product development, operations, suppliers, customer relations, and the overall enterprise that requires less human effort, less space, less capital, less material, and less time to make products with fewer defects to precise customer desires, compared with traditional management.
Toyota pioneered lean management as a complete business system after World War II. During the late 1980s, a research team headed by James P. Womack, PhD., at MIT’s International Motor Vehicle Program coined the term “lean” to describe Toyota’s system.
