Local Irish History Group in Limerick, Ireland offering scholarships to American and Irish students.

The Castlemahon History Group (located in County Limerick, Ireland) has announced the formation of a scholarship in Irish history to be sponsored by their long-time honorary member Michael P. Fleming, Texas Lawyer & Irish Solicitor. The scholarship opportunity will be open to any American students attending college for the first time as well as any Castlemahon National School graduate headed to University (3rd Levels). A total of $5,000.00 in funds will be awarded applicants - $2,500.00 to a graduate of Castlemahon National School and $2,500.00 to an American High School Senior entering University for the first time. The winners will be selected by a committee of the History Group and their essays will be considered for publication in the Group’s Parish Annual which is published each fall. Patrick Normoyle, President of Castlemahon History Group, stated, “We are pleased to do our part to spread the interest in Irish history to our children and to students in America.”

Castlemahon History Group is based in the village of Castlemahon, County Limerick Ireland and for over 30 years has continuously published a Parish Annual containing articles on local happenings as well as historical Irish events. It is one of the longest-serving such organizations in Ireland and has been honored by the president of Ireland and two Texas governors.

About Michael P. Fleming
Michael P. Fleming’s ancestors lived in Castlemahon for hundreds of years before being forced out by the Irish Potato Famine of the 1840’s. He has been associated with the Castlemahon History Group for over twenty years and was made an Honorary Member in 2007. In addition to practicing law in Houston, Texas where he served as the elected Harris County Attorney, Mr. Fleming is also licensed as a Solicitor by the Law Society of Ireland.
