Board-certified cosmetic surgeon and clinical professor of surgery at University of Chicago Medicine, Dr. Anthony J. Geroulis is scheduled to lead Grand Rounds for surgical residents on the topic of upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery in January, 2015.

Dr. Anthony J. Geroulis, who has been a clinical professor of surgery at University of Chicago Medicine since 1999 when he received his full Clinical Professorship status in the Department of Surgery, is scheduled to lead Grand Rounds on Thursday, January 9th on the topic of upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery, also referred to clinically as upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty.

Grand Rounds are held weekly in the institutions surgical departments and are an opportunity for University of Chicago faculty and prominent visiting guests to present important cases pertaining to the particular medical field. Grand Rounds are critical to the development of medical residents and as a prestigious teaching hospital, University of Chicago Medicine students rely heavily on the knowledge and experience gained from these meetings. Grand Rounds cover the research, application and results of surgical techniques and technologies so that students can understand their applicability first hand.

Dr. Geroulis has been a facial cosmetic surgeon for over thirty years and has a breadth of expertise in the study and practice of upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery. At his practice in Northfield, North Shore Center for Facial Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Geroulis performs hundreds of these procedures regularly. In addition to an extensive background performing rejuvenating eye procedures, Dr. Geroulis has been critical in pioneering the “transconjunctival approach” that is employed in this specialty procedure. This technique, requires great finesse, skill and precision, and is a used by Dr. Geroulis, during lower eyelid surgery. Lower eyelid fat is removed through a single incision in the lower eyelid so that no scar is visible to the human eye.
