Dr Barbara Kubicka, the innovative Aesthetic Physician behind ClinicBe (London) http://www.clinicbe.com has launched an innovative new treatment to rejuvenate the lip and mouth area – the lip thread lift.
With age the distance between nose and upper lip extends giving the impression of the lip dropping. The effect is very aging, especially when smiling, as during the smile the top of the teeth are no longer visible.
This treatment addresses the overall shape of the mouth by gently lifting the tissues beneath the surface of the skin into a higher profile, which very effectively rejuvenates the appearance of the mouth and lifts the top lip to a more youthful position.
Dr Barbara Kubicka MD , CIME/ICAM, MBCAM explains:
“With the passing of time, gravity takes its toll on the structure beneath the skin, so that the lip line can start to take on a downwards direction. This results in a ‘downturned smile’ which can make people look permanently moody, angry or unhappy.
“The lip thread lift is designed to physically support the overall mouth shape by lifting the tissues into a higher profile for a younger-looking smile. This is a subtle, yet highly effective transformation and patients have been delighted with the results.
“The passing of time also tends to deplete the natural volume in the lips, making them become thinner. This has previously been addressed using dermal fillers, replenishing the lost volume for a fuller look. However, this does not address the overall shape of the mouth.”
Dr Kubicka offers a choice of thread lift techniques, depending on the individual patient.
Firstly, the new PDO threads are an effective and non-invasive choice. These super-fine threads are made of a natural material which breaks down within the skin. They feature no cones and are incredibly fine so can be used in the most delicate procedures such as lifting and sculpting the lips. PDO threads are made from Polydioxanone, which has an added benefit, as the substance naturally stimulates the production of collagen in the mid layer of the skin creating a firmer and more youthful texture, very subtly restoring natural volume.
Where a more radical lift is required, Silhouette Soft threads are also available. These threads can be used to address the 'increased with age' distance between the tip of the nose to upper lip. The lengthening of the nose to mouth distance has a very ageing effect. It can usually only be treated surgically with an invasive buffalo lift. However, Silhouette Soft, by comparison, is far less invasive, requires faster recovery, no general anaesthetic or overnight stay and is also considerably cheaper.
Dr Kubicka continues:
“The mouth and lips are key in anti-ageing treatments; yet until now, patients have been offered little choice with lip fillers dominating the most common option.
“The lip thread lift is a different concept which works on the structure and shape of the lips rather than boosting volume. It is ideal for those patients who have concerns about looking overly ‘pouty,’ which is a risk of poorly done fillers. For those who are struggling with the down-turned mouth shape, it is an excellent choice. It is also highly effective for smokers, who find that with repeated puffing and oxygen deprivation they are even more prone to signs of ageing in the mouth area.
“The beauty of the treatment is that results can be achieved very quickly using our minimally invasive techniques, creating instant improvement which looks natural yet is highly effective.”
