Evolution Swim Academy has partnered up with 5 Olympians to bring the City of Mission Viejo its first, indoor learn to swim center. The 5 Olympians are Founder Felipe Delgado (Atlanta 1996 / Sydney 2000), world record holder and 5-time Olympic gold medalist Aaron Peirsol, 2-time Olympic medalist and US Navy Seal Larsen Jensen, Olympic medalist Gabe Woodward and 6-time Turkish Olympian Derya Buyukuncu. All five swimmers have Orange County roots, having trained with local swim clubs in preparation for their respective Olympic games participation. The grand opening of the new swim center will take place on January 30, 2015 at 4:00PM with a ribbon cutting ceremony and media tours of the facility.
“It is an honor to be able to team up with a group of experts in a field that truly makes a difference in the life of a child,” said Felipe Delgado, founder of Evolution Swim Academy. With drowning being the leading cause of death for infants and young children between the ages of 1-4 (http://www.cdc.gov/SafeChild/Drowning/), learning to swim should be considered a year-round initiative and not one that is seasonal.
"The impact and culture of swimming in Orange County, and Southern California in general, had an impact on me that reaches to the values and ideals learned and to the myriad of incredible people that instilled and perpetuated those ideals along the way," said Aaron Peirsol, 3 time Olympian and 5 time Olympic gold medalist. Peirsol went on to say "In turn, I cannot help but reciprocate, if not in some small measure, the gifts and opportunities this community instilled in me."
Evolution Swim Academy offers Parent & Me lessons, Swim Lessons, Swim Camps and Intro to Water Polo. “Swim safety is our number 1 priority, but collectively, we have all participated in multiple Olympic games so it is a natural progression for us to offer opportunities for those that want to continue with their swim development,” said Delgado.
Evolution Swim Academy (http://www.evolutionswim.com) is already offering its services to its clients five days per week, Monday – Thursday and Saturday. It is currently offering its entire learn-to-swim curriculum and will be starting its seasonal swim camps in April. Intro to Water Polo will also start in April with an introduction to the program in February. Evolution Swim Academy also plans to offer aqua therapy and adult swim hours.
