Industrial Hygienists can now make better informed decisions about the risk of exposures to chemicals, noise, and other hazards in the workplace, thanks to a new interface between Medgate and EASi’s products.
Medgate customers can now directly access IH Data Analyst, created by EASi, thanks to an exclusive partnership announced last year. It allows users of Medgate’s industrial hygiene software to perform Bayesian Decision Analysis (BDA) as part of their risk assessments to give clearer outcomes about exposures with limited data.
IH Data Analyst is widely recognized as the industry standard in BDA tools, used by hygienists all over the world. Before now, industrial hygiene professionals have had to use a standalone application, adding significant time and effort into their risk analysis processes. By integrating this tool into Medgate’s Industrial Hygiene suite, Industrial Hygienists will be able to manage all of their risk assessments in a single, centralized location.

About Bayesian Decision Analysis
Bayesian decision analysis is branch of statistics based upon the theorem of the mathematician Thomas Bayes which can show how probable certain outcomes are in a given a set of circumstances.
Being able to perform this kind of analysis is particularly useful for industrial hygienists. Their role involves measuring potentially hazardous workplace exposures to determine whether employees are at risk and should be protected and monitored for health impacts.
If the number of samples taken is large enough, it is relatively straightforward to use the data collected to make risk-based decisions. However, with limited data, it becomes more difficult to statistically validate those decisions.
Applying Bayesian decision analysis to sample data sets will allow industrial hygienists to act with more certainty when compared to standard statistical methods, particularly when the sample size is limited.
