Nashville’s First Startup Weekend Announced for April 10 – 12, 2015
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) March 10, 2015 -- Startup Weekend, a non-profit community building event that brings together entrepreneurs, designers, developers and startup enthusiasts for 54-hours of taking business ideas from concept to launch, is coming to Nashville for the first time next month. Teaching and promoting entrepreneurship through the act of creation, this weekend-long event will take place April 10 – 12 at the Entrepreneur Center. By spending a weekend working to build scalable companies that solve real-world problems, participants have the opportunity to develop new relationships, match potential cofounders, validate ideas and experiment in a risk-free environment. It is an opportunity to simulate an entrepreneurial experience in an incredibly condensed period.
Around 80 attendees are expected to participate over the weekend, which will commence on Friday night, inviting individuals to take the open mic and pitch their startup idea in 60 seconds or less. Top ideas will be voted on, teams will be made and the weekend will begin. Local CEOs, founders and startup veterans will be on hand as mentors to provide guidance as the teams work to turn their ideas into developed companies. The weekend will culminate on Sunday with presentations in front of an audience of judges and potential investors.
The mission of Nashville’s first Startup Weekend isn’t just limited to creating startups, but supporting local business by encouraging growth and innovation. Ninety-five percent of attendees say they would attend again, over thirty-five percent of Startup Weekend startups are still going after three months and roughly eighty percent of participants plan on continuing working with their team or startup after the weekend culminates. Startup Weekend is the perfect opportunity to work on a new platform, learn a new programming language or just try something different. For many, it is the first step on an entrepreneurial journey.
Startup Weekend Nashville is being organized locally by Eduardo Altamirano of Mosaic Nutrition, Suki Mulberg Altamirano of Lexington Public Relations, Stuart Brent of Ignite Your Match, Daniel Johnsen of ShakeSpot, Kirsty Hughan of Seamless Marketing and Phil Shmerling of InCrowd Capital.
