“Both Sean and Morgan shook up the landscape in 2014 and we are honored to welcome both of these distinguished executives to our event as the brands they represent truly drive the business of sports today.” said Chris Pursell, Director of Sports Content.

The prestigious Cynopsis Sports Media Awards has named two of the sports’ industries biggest stars as its honorees for the April 16 show this year. Gary B. Bettman, Commissioner of the NHL, and Juan Carlos Rodriguez, President of Univision Deportes for Univision Communications, Inc. will be among the VIPs who will be receiving some of the show’s top honors.
Boasting some of the hottest properties, campaigns and brands from around the world of sports, the fourth annual Cynopsis Sports Media Awards Breakfast will take place on Thursday, April 16 at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan. These honorees will be joined by dozens of finalists who are competing for signature sports business awards presented by the daily sports business publication. The Cynopsis Sports Media Awards recognize the most outstanding work in the sports industry from the past year with categories that span television, digital, marketing and more.
As part of the festivities, Cynopsis also pays tribute annually with special awards that are given to sports luminaries who changed the way their brands connected with fans across the country and around the world. This year will see Commissioner Bettman honored with the 2015 Vision Award, while Rodriguez accepts the Navigator Award.
“In a constantly evolving media world, especially in the sports industry, every year presents new opportunities and challenges to engage audiences,” said Chris Pursell, Director of Sports Content for Cynopsis Sports. “Both Sean and Morgan shook up the landscape in 2014 and we are honored to welcome both of these distinguished executives to our event as the brands they represent truly drive the business of sports today.”
The 2015 Vision Award is presented annually to the executive of the year (from a sports league or organization) who has demonstrated innovation and works that have transformed the industry. This year’s honoree, Gary B. Bettman, has guided the world’s top professional hockey league through more than two decades of growth and advancement on and off the ice, with the sport delivering record viewership to NBC and NBC Sports Network last season. The combination of competitive balance, exciting play and a calendar of innovative signature events -– including iconic outdoor games -- has helped drive fan engagement and sponsor participation to unprecedented levels.
The publication will also honor Juan Carlos Rodriguez with the coveted 2015 Navigator Award. Rodriguez has spearheaded the acquisition of exclusive Spanish-language broadcast rights to some of the most important properties and tournaments in sports, including MLS, Liga MX, U.S. Men’s National Team, Formula 1, and Top Rank Boxing, as well as content partnership deals with the NFL and NBA, among others. Under his leadership, Univision Deportes Network (UDN) has become the No. 1 Spanish language sports network in the country in less than two years since its debut while Univision Deportes delivered the most successful FIFA World Cup in the history of Spanish-language television. Rodriguez also spearheaded the extension of the Univision Deportes brand into the competitive digital space, including the launch of the Univision Deportes app and state-of-the-art production technology to offer viewers the best sports experience while watching the teams and leagues they care about most.
These luminaries, along with dozens of category winners, will be honored on April 16 at the Cynopsis Sports awards breakfast. Also receiving high honorees will be Sean McManus, Chairmain for CBS Sports receiving the Legacy Awards and Morgan Flatley, CMO for Gatorade, accepting the GEM Award on behalf of Gatorade.
