The reasons why they left their home countries are various, but may be divided into 6 main categories: better life (30%), job (19%), studies (13%), love (10%), adventure (9%), family (7%) and others (12%). What the immigrants miss the most about life back home
More than half (52%) miss their family and friends still living in their home countries. About 27% miss the food, the familiar taste of the traditional dishes from the country where they lived for so long. Some of them were really specific: Goa sausages, a good steak, pastries. Some of the reasons (9%) are weather-related: warm weather, sun, snow, seasons. 5% of the US immigrants don’t miss anything about their lives back home. What was the funniest thing respondents mentioned when answering this question? “I miss my bed”!
What they like the most about their current lives
Stability, financial comfort, and traveling are the main three things US immigrants enjoy about their current lives. They also appreciate the new people they met and communities they discovered in the US, which gave them the opportunity to enrich their cultural perspectives.
Their hobbies are…
Traveling, sports, gardening, cooking, gardening, social works, watching TV, reading books. The survey showed that hobbies don’t change that much after moving to the US. Awkward hobbies? “Watching the bills” said an expat from Mexico.

Calling (53%) and internet(43%) are the most frequently used methods to keep in touch with the family and friends back home.
