In this motivational talk entitled "Mother Nature, Motivation and Music," Redmond will share his "CRASH" philosophy for attracting success to one's life. CRASH, an acronym for "Commitment-Relationships-Attitude-Skill-Hunger" is a mantra for living that Redmond has used to navigate one of the most challenging and competitive fields in the world: the music business. Previously, Redmond talked with Marstel-Day founder, CEO and President Rebecca Rubin about his green practices using environmentally sound drum equipment in Marstel-Day's Vital Voices series, recorded at the Nashville House of Blues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SorDYCkFusk

For the April 15 event at UMW, Redmond will combine his passionate stories and high energy playing examples into a powerful one hour presentation that will energize anyone in any field. As a special theme, Redmond will address the need for environmental sustainability. The CRASH event will be followed by a short ceremony honoring area non-profits who exemplify sustainable practices, and Redmond will be available to sign autographs and talk with students.

"As a professional musician who cares about the environment, it's important to me to have a drum set that is both environmentally sound and durable enough to withstand a grueling, global touring schedule," Redmond said. "It took a lot of research and questioning to get my current drum set, but in the process, I've learned a lot about how much of a difference you can make just by holding to your values and standards. People will follow your lead, and then you make a bigger impact. I look forward to sharing that message as well as my music with the UMW students."

"Rich Redmond demonstrates two crucial things," Rubin said. "One is how just about anything we do can be done in a sustainable fashion - including high-performing drum sets - if we put our mind to it. The other is how influential performers can use their voice as a force for good. My discussion with Rich on Vital Voices was so powerful from an environmental standpoint that we are very excited to have him back on a Marstel-Day platform to share his music and message with the UMW students."

Redmond's motivational talk will be held on April 15 at the University of Mary Washington's Jepson Alumni Executive Center, Fredericksburg, VA
